Las Vegas casinos. Where poker is just a big business…
Written on 14 October 2008 by admin
Well… tonight i decided this blog is not just a place to write about online poker or some other web-oriented casino games and tricks.. August 2008 was a time when i visited Vegas the first time. Just three days there and i changed my opinion on how does “big money” look like ![]()
Vegas is not just a city with about 550.000 population - this is an area where the only street exists in the evening - the Las Vegas Blvd. This is the place where dreams of poker players came true - the place with ca. 183 casinos available for poker fans from all over the world. We stayed in Luxor hotel. This is a cheap one in the North area of LV Blvd. Just about $90 per night of double-bed room but the window sight was amazing… incredible… perfect… Here is just 1 picture of this hotel building:

But what impressed us the most was the casinos. They are everywhere - in almost each restaurant, in hotel hall, in the airport… everywhere. Here is how the regular casino in LV looks like:
To feel the atmosphere of the city of big money, blackjacks, poker tables and slot machines - just follow expedia.com and book a flight to Las Vegas ![]()

World Series is without a doubt the biggest and most prestigious poker tournament in the world. I guess even it’s creator, Benny Binion, couldn’t realize the status his tournament achieved in 30 years after it was held the first time in 1968 to promote his small hotel “Holiday Hotel and Casino”…
It takes place in Las Vegas once a year, and since 2007 contains fifty five events, of which all (except the “Main Event”) are finished during the first 30 days.
The winner of the tournament will get World Series of Poker bracelet and a money prize that is based on players amount. The culmination of the Series is the $10000 no-limit Texas Hold’em “Main Event”.
Here are some stats for the last set of years:
| Year | Number of Entrants | First Place Prize |
| 2000 | 512 | $ 1,500,000 |
| 2001 | 613 | $ 1,500,000 |
| 2002 | 631 | $ 2,000,000 |
| 2003 | 839 | $ 2,500,000 |
| 2004 | 2576 | $ 5,000,000 |
| 2005 | 5619 | $ 7,500,000 |
| 2006 | 8773 | $12,000,000 |
| 2007 | 6358 | $ 8,250,000 |
| 2008 | 6844 | $ 9,119,517 |
The fist champion of WSOF is Johnny Moss. He won the tournament in 1970. The last one is Jerry Yang, who won $8.250.000 in 2007.
The WSOP has the sister in Europe and is called World Series of Poker Europe.
The first time WSOPE arrived in Europe in September 2007, with London, England chosen as it’s first location. The series had just three bracelet events and the main prize was just £10,000.
